ATV10 Network TEN (Melbourne)

On August 6, 1964, ATV0 officially opened. It would have been on channel 10, but regional service GLV10 intruded into Melbourne, so ATV was allocated 0.
In 1965 TEN10 Sydney, TVQ0 Brisbane, SAS10 Adelaide and ATV joined to create the 0-10 Network.
In June 1967, ATV transmitted the Yarra Glen/Pakenham Races in colour, the first colour program on Australian TV. ATV soon started broadcasting in colour all the time.
In 1979 Rupert Murdoch gained control of the station.
On the 17 January 1980 GLV10 changed to GLV8. This allowed ATV to broadcast on channel 10. So on the 20 January 1980, 3 days after GLV changed, ATV0 changed to ATV10, fixing the original 0/10 problem. ATV then started using the all new logo of Network 10, which had changed it's name from 0-10 that day. One slogan was 'You're on top with 10'.
